> Fishing Reel Challenge
Posted by Rantin Al - 07:34 am - 20 comments

Hi everyone. The Challenge subject this time is to model, texture and render a Fishing Reel.

It can be either of the two types as shown in the Challenge Banner.
Fixed Spool or Multiplier Level Wind but no simple fly-fishing drum reels.
You can model one out of the box and all shiny, or one that has seen a bit of service and landed its share of Big Blue Marlins.

The emphasis for this challenge will be concentrated on Polygon Modeling, Textures and Lighting.
For this challenge, we want you to use any POLYGON Modeling technique but excluding Lofted, Swept or Extruded Splines.
That would make it too easy. But you can use a Sweep Spline for the Bale Arm in the second type of reel.

Edit: A SweepSpline can be used for the Line Guide Wire in both types of reel.

You have from now until Friday, 19th September, 2008.

Judges for this challenge: Cafe Staff.

1. Deadline Midnight CST (North America), Friday, 19th September, 2008.
2. No time limit i.e. take as long as you like to do the modeling and texturing.
3. No imported models / meshes / scenes. Labeling and logo images are fine for this challenge.
4. Members can enter multiple times.
5. The Cafe judges reserve the right to disallow any entry if in their opinion the entry contains objectionable, offensive material or blatant advertising.
6. No post work is permitted. It has to be modelled and rendered in C4D or using a C4D renderer like Vray etc.
7. Maximum image size is 1280 x 1024 for the final entry thread and 1024 x 768 for replies in this WIP thread. Please compress your jpeg images. Anything over 300kb is too big.
8. At least one WIP image in wireframe and solid render are required as a reply to this thread. The wireframe render should be done as a Cel render and with hypernurbs disabled. Check out our cel rendering tutorial here if you don't know how to do one. Disable hypernurbs in the cel renders so that we can see the polygon construction.
9. No remote hosting of images. All images to be uploaded to the Cafe. Just press the "add this attachment" button to upload each image.
10. At least one wireframe image and one final image are required. You images can be montages of smaller images if you want. Hypernurbs must be disabled in the wireframe. We want to see the polygon construction.
11. All final entries must be made in the proper "Final entry" thread located here.
12. You cannot use models etc that you have previously modelled. You must start everything new and specifically for this challenge.

Good luck and good hunting!!
Have fun, Alan.

A New Series of XPresso Tutorials are now being served at the Cafe.
You are cordially invited to join the Cafe Staff for the Grand Opening.

Refreshments will be served but be quick, Damsel has her eye on the dough-nuts.

The first serving will be an opening speech by Mr & Mrs Flop. A nice but often mis-understood couple.

Further entertainments are planned and will follow in due course.
Meanwhile, come in an meet them here at the Cafe.

Their offspring can be seen entertaining the crowds, here and here, where a runaway train is causing havoc.

Hope you enjoy the show, folks. smiley2.gif
Cheers, Uncle Al.

Edit: The scenefile links for the Thinking Particles and Simple Gate are now fixed. Sorry about that. rolleyes.gif
